Famitsu posted an interview with Rina Matsuda & Hikaru Morita (Sakurazaka46) on October 18th, 2024.

"Rayquaza Rising", the new chapter of the Pocket Monsters TV show, started airing in October 2024. Its ending theme was done by Rina Matsuda-san and Hikaru Morita-san from Sakurazaka46.

They're singing the song "Pikkaan!", which was produced and composed by Giga & TeddyLoid. The lyrics are by DECO*27-san, while the CD jacket by Kei Mochizuki-san - truly the "ultimate lineup".

We've interviewed the singers Rina Matsuda-san and Hikaru Morita-san and can now bring you an article filled with love for Pokémon and anecdotes of their personal friendship.

Q: First off, how did you feel when you first learned you'd be singing the ending theme for Rayquaza Rising, the new chapter of the Pocket Monsters TV show?
Matsuda: I got very surprised. Singing an anime song at one point during my career has always been a dream of mine, so I was very happy that it had come true.
Morita: I've always been a big fan of Pokémon, but even though I've been professionally involved with the franchise in a number of ways already, I never thought the day would come where I'd get to sing an ending theme for the Pokémon anime! It feels like a dream come true, and made me extremely happy.

Q: Even though you're both members of Sakurazaka46, it's quite rare for just the two of you two do a song together.
Matsuda: True, we've never sung together before.
Morita: We've actually never even been in a unit together.
Q: Wow, so your first time performing together was in a duet? What are your opinions of each other?
Morita: Matsuda is a great singer who's always leading the other members of Sakurazaka46 along while singing. It's a real honor to get to sing a duet with her. We had actually talked about wanting to do something together one day, so I'm very happy we got that chance.
Matsuda: Morita and I were good friends even before we joined Sakurazaka46, and we often go out, eat and talk about work together. I'm very happy we get the opportunity to preserve our bond through a duet.
Q: So you're good friends in private too?!
Morita: Yeah, one time we were on the phone with each other for an eternity (laughs). We found ourselves completely unable to hang up, so we ended up talking all through the night until the next morning.
Matsuda: Right, we actually ended up falling asleep. At that point we had been talking for about 16 hours.
Morita: I don't actually remember what the call was supposed to be about in the first place either. But I do remember we woke up at the same time.
Matsuda: Maybe we heard a noise or something. Either way, we still didn't want to hang up, and since we were both going to the same place anyway, we just got ready together. Right?
Morita: Yeah. "Let's stay on the line forever", we said (laughs).

Q: I can really tell how good friends you are! Now, what were your initial thoughts on the new song "Pikkaan!"?
Morita: I felt the song was jam-packed with Pokémon's greatness and featured a perfect mix of a hummable, cheerful and catchy melody and naturally encouraging lyrics. It's a song I think everyone can identify with no matter how old they are.
Matsuda: It was a type of song Sakurazaka46 has never sung before, even containing a rap section, so I initially thought it'd be a difficult one for me to sing. I was happy that I got to challenge myself in this manner, though, and found it very fun to actually sing. As Morita says, the melody and lyrics are very encouraging, or rather, it felt like they were giving me a supportive push.

Q: Are there any parts of the song you focused particularly on, or that you'd like us to focus particularly on?
Matsuda: I think the very first line, which goes "Rise Up, Pikkaan!", is a real earworm due to how often it gets repeated throughout the song, and I hope people will end up spontaneously humming along to it. And personally I thought the "Big Up!" chants were really fun to sing, since they sound so much like Pikachu saying "Pika!"
Morita: I agree about the opening line, it made a strong impression on me as well. Something else I'd like to mention is that while I largely sang the song in a very cheerful and... cheerleading-esque manner, when I listen to it now the bit that goes "Ready" doesn't sound as cheerful as I thought it would. During the recording session, I put a lot more energy into that bit than I had originally intended; Giga-san and TeddyLoid-san had given me a lot of advice on how to sound cuter that I was paying close attention to, so I really hope you'll enjoy the end result.

Q: Let's switch the topic to your personal relationship with the Pokémon franchise. First of all, what was your first encounter with the franchise?
Matsuda: The first that comes to mind is Pochama from the Pocket Monsters Diamond & Pearl TV show. Now, I'm sure I had encountered Pokémon in some way or other prior to that as well, but Pochama's immense popularity back then really struck me, and I'm absolutely positive that's what made me and my friends really take note of the franchise!
Morita: I've been a huge fan of Pokémon for as long as I can remember. My older sister was really into the franchise as well, so our house was filled with Pokémon plushies, which I'm sure rubbed off on me. It was Pocket Monsters Diamond/Pearl that also got me into seriously playing the video games and watching the anime, and I was likewise hugely into Pochama due to how cute is was (laughs). I thought of its final evolved form Emperte as "My very own partner!" and maxed it out in every way I could, Contests included. I also remember feeling a bit proud that my name resembled that of Hikari, Pochama's Trainer in the anime.

Q: Do you have a favorite among the Pokémon that appear in the current Pocket Monsters TV show?
Matsuda: Nyahoja, Hogator and Kuwassu are all so super cute I can't pick between them. And Pupimocchi is super cute too... I just can't choose one single favorite, I'm sorry (laughs).
Morita: I really love Hogator, so I make sure to immediately get any merch of it that gets released! They just released some Hogator merch as part of a Halloween-themed merch line the other day, and I instantly ran over to the Pokémon Center to purchase it!

Q: How much Pokémon merch do you currently own?
Morita: I actually counted my plushies while cleaning the other day, and currently I have a bit over 50 of them in my house. That doesn't include all my other Pokémon merch. I think I might be buying a bit too much (laughs). I make sure to visit the Pokémon Center at least once every season, the atmosphere there is just so immersive; Not only do they of course constantly play Pokémon music, but the ambience and attitude of the staff likewise help create a really genuine Pokémon world; I still can't forget how my eyes were sparkling when I first went there as a kid. Nowadays I end up going there all the time, I just can't help myself.
Q: What's your favorite among all the merch you've obtained thus far?
Morita: I really like this super cute rubber phone charm featuring a Messon wearing a fluffy hood that they released as part of a Christmas season lineup. For a while I was even going around constantly clutching it in my hand (laughs).

Q: If I'm not mistaken, you also really like Zuruggu, don't you?
Morita: That's right. Its face looks so cute it was love at first sight. The way it uses moves is also really cute, and I especially like how it looks when using Leer. It makes me wish it'd Leer at me (laughs). It really is Hogator that has captured my heart as of recent, though. I actually love it so much that even though I normally always pick the Water type Pokémon as my initial partner in the video games, I made a one-time exception this time and chose Hogator instead!
Q: Matsuda-san, how about you? Do you have any other favorite Pokémon?
Matsuda: I like Eievui a lot. It's really cute, and I remember wishing I could meet one in real life back when I was in elementary school. I get that kind of urge whenever I see a Pokémon.

Q: I see, it's a dream you've had since childhood. Now, the two of you both said your earliest Pokémon memories involved Pocket Monsters Diamond/Pearl, but are there any Pokémon-related games you have a special kind of attachment to?
Matsuda: When I was a kid I was hardly ever allowed to buy video games, so when Pokémon Go released when I was in high school, I played that all the time! I remember traveling with friends to places I normally wouldn't go to just to catch Pokémon.
Q: That's such a nice memory! How about you, Morita-san?
Morita: I started with Pocket Monsters Diamond, and then went on to play Pocket Monsters Platinum, Pocket Monsters Heart Gold, Pocket Monsters Black, Pocket Monsters Shield and Pocket Monsters Scarlet... though in the end, I have to say the game I feel the strongest about is the first one I played, Pocket Monsters Diamond. I played the remake Pocket Monsters Brilliant Diamond/Shiny Pearl as well, though while they reminded me of that initial experience, I was able to enjoy them in a completely different way!
Q: That's what's so great about remakes, isn't it? You get to reminisce about your childhood as you play them! You said you have strong feelings associated with Pocket Monsters Diamond, so how much did you play that game?
Morita: I played the game over and over, becoming Pokémon League Champion, completing the Pokémon Zukan, then resetting the entire game and starting over from scratch. I'd always feel sad when I beat the game since that meant my adventure was over, so I enjoyed replaying the adventure with a fresh mindset, putting different Pokémon on my team and choosing different paths through the game!

Q: Since this interview is for Famitsu, I'd like to ask a few questions about other video games as well. Matsuda-san, I heard that you bought a gaming PC in order to play FPS games, what made you do that?
Matsuda: It was ultimately a result of me getting into video game streams as an adult. Getting infected with the Corona virus made me feel really lonely, like I had been cut off from the rest of the world. However, by pure chance I happened to stumble upon a video game livestream, and it gave me a real sense of relief to see so many people enjoying the same thing at the same time. The game that was being streamed was an FPS game, which was the first time I learned you could actually play games on a PC, and that experience inspired me to buy a PC so I could play games myself as well.
Q: It's really impressive how quick you are to take action. How about you, Morita-san, do you play any video games besides Pokémon?
Morita: I do indeed play a lot of Pokémon, but I'm also a big fan of the Animal Forest series, and I like rhythm games as well. I like games with a nice and relaxing atmosphere in general (laughs).

Q: Do the members of Sakurazaka46 ever play games or talk about games together?
Matsuda: Not video games, but we often used to play games like Werewolf or Wordwolf together.
Q: Who's the best at those?
Matsuda: I think we're all pretty terrible... (laughs)
Morita: Wasn't Inoue pretty good?
Matsuda: She was really good at asking questions, but always ended up losing anyway (laughs).
Morita: I've never played any games with them, but I occasionally talk about Pokémon with third generation members Shizuki Yamashita-chan and Reina Odakura-chan. I once noticed they were wearing Nuoh keychains, so I took that as an opportunity to strike up a conversation.
Q: So if any of the Sakurazaka46 juniors are wearing some kind of Pokémon merch, you might reach out to them? (laughs)
Morita: I'll come over to talk if I see any, yeah (laughs).

Q: Finally, do you have something you want to tell our readers?
Matsuda: This song has made me a much bigger fan of Pokémon than I've ever been before! I'm sure all you super supportive Buddies will be happy with it as well, and I hope it will make Pokémon fans out of some of them, just like it did to me. It's a real earworm, so I hope all you Pokémon fans will enjoy it too. I want to use this song to spread the word about what makes Pokémon so appealing, just as I'd like to increase my own love for the franchise.
Morita: I'm sure this song will come as a huge surprise to you Buddies who know how big a Pokémon fan I am. Make sure to look forward to the Pocket Monsters TV show every week from now on, okay? プライベートでも仲のいいふたりの初デュエット曲。16時間寝落ち通話エピソードもテレビアニメ『ポケットモンスター』シリーズの新章『レックウザ ライジング』が2024年10月放送開始。そして、そのエンディングテーマの歌唱を櫻坂46の松田里奈さんと森田ひかるさんのふたりが担当することとなった。
ふたりが歌う楽曲『ピッカーン！』は、Giga＆TeddyLoidが作曲＆プロデュース。作詞はDECO*27さん、ジャケットイラストは望月けいさんが担当する“最強すぎる布陣”となっている。

そんな本楽曲を歌唱する松田里奈さんと森田ひかるさんへインタビューを実施。ふたりの仲のよさがうかがえるエピソードや、ポケモン愛に溢れた内容をお届けする。

松田里奈（まつだ りな）
櫻坂46二期生で、キャプテンを務めている。1999年10月13日生まれで星座はてんびん座。身長は159.5cm。出身は宮崎県で血液型はO型。

森田ひかる（もりたひかる）
櫻坂46二期生。ポケモン好きを公言している。2001年7月10日生まれで星座はかに座。身長は150.5cm。出身は福岡県で血液型はB型。

――まずは、テレビアニメ『ポケットモンスター』新章『レックウザ ライジング』編のエンディングテーマを歌うことが決まったときのお気持ちを教えてください。
松田 最初はすごくびっくりしました。自分の活動の中でアニメの楽曲を歌わせていただくことはひとつの夢だったので、それが叶ってとてもうれしいです。
松田 私はもともとポケモンが大好きで、これまでもいろいろなお仕事で関わらせていただきましたが、まさかエンディングテーマを歌わせていただける日が来るとは思っていませんでした。夢のような感覚で、本当にうれしかったです。
――櫻坂46としても、おふたりのみでの活動は珍しいですよね。
松田 そうなんです。このふたりで組んだことはないよね。
松田 デュエットどころか、ユニットも組んだことがないです。

――初めてがまさかのデュエットだったんですね。おふたりそれぞれの互いへの印象をうかがってもいいですか？
松田 松田はとても歌が上手くて、櫻坂46でも歌唱の面でいつも引っ張ってくれている存在です。そんな松田といっしょにふたりで歌えるのは光栄ですし、「いつかふたりで何かしたいね」という話はしていたんです。それが叶ってとてもうれしいです！
松田 森田とは、櫻坂46に加入する前から仲がよくて、ふたりでお出かけしたりご飯食べに行ったり、仕事の話もふだんからよくするんです。その絆のようなものを、デュエット曲という形として残せる機会をいただけて、すごくうれしいです。

――おふたりはプライベートでも仲がいいんですね！
松田 前にものすごーく長時間電話してたことあったよね（笑）。話してたらなんか切れなくなっちゃって、翌日まで繋ぎっぱなしだったんです。
松田 そうそう。寝落ちしちゃって。16時間ぐらいずっと繋いだままだった。
松田 なんで電話したんだったかなぁ。最初の目的は忘れちゃった。起きるタイミングも同じで。
松田 ちょうどお互いに物音が聞こえてきて起きたのかな。なんとなくまだ切りたくなくて、その後も同じ現場だったので、そのままいっしょに支度してたよね。
松田 ずっと繋いでおこうって（笑）。

――おふたりの仲のよさがとてもよくわかりました！　今回の楽曲『ピッカーン！』について、最初に聴いたときの感想を教えてください。
松田 ポケモンのよさがぎゅっと詰まっている曲だと感じました。それでいてなんとなく口ずさみたくなってくるような明るいポップなメロディに、聴いているだけで自然と勇気づけられるような歌詞がとてもマッチしていて。子どもから大人まで、いろいろな世代に感情移入してもらえるような歌だと思います。
松田 ラップなども入っており、櫻坂46ではこれまでに歌ったことのないタイプの楽曲だったので、自分が歌うとなると難しそうだと感じました。そうした楽曲に挑戦できること自体がうれしかったですし、実際に歌ってみるとすごく楽しくて。森田が言うようにメロディと歌詞が勇気づけてくれるというか、背中を押してくれるような感じがしました。

――とくにこだわった部分や注目してほしいポイントがあれば教えてください。
松田 最初に出てくる「Rise Up,ピッカーン」は曲中で何度か繰り返されるので、印象に残るんじゃないかなと思います。自然と口ずさめるようになってくれたらうれしいです。個人的には「Big Up!」のところが、「ピカァ」ってピカチュウの鳴き声みたいに聞こえるので歌っていて楽しかったです。
松田 私も最初の部分が印象深いですね。全体的に明るくチアリーディングのように歌っているのですが、自分で聴いてみると「Ready」の部分が思ったより明るくならなくて。レコーディングでは自分の想定より何倍もテンションを上げて歌いました。GigaさんとTeddyLoidさんから、よりかわいく録れるようなアドバイスもいただきながら、ひとつひとつ細かいところまでこだわりながらレコーディングしましたので、ぜひ楽しんでいただければと思います。
ポケモンとの出会いは『ポケットモンスター ダイヤモンド・パール』。子どものころはポッチャマが大人気！

――ここからはポケモンとの関わりについておうかがいしていきます。まずはポケモンとの出会いについて教えてください。
松田 最初に思い浮かぶのはテレビアニメ『ポケットモンスター ダイヤモンド＆パール』のポッチャマです。たぶんそれ以前にもポケモンに触れたことはあったと思うのですが、とにかく当時のポッチャマ人気がすごかったというのが印象深いです。私や周囲の友だちのなかで、ポケモンを強く意識するようになったきっかけであることは間違いないです！
松田 物心がついたころにはポケモンが大好きになっていました。姉もポケモンが好きで、家にポケモンのぬいぐるみがたくさんあったので、その影響もあったと思います。本格的にゲームをプレイしたりアニメを見たりするようになったのは、私も『ポケットモンスター ダイヤモンド・パール』でした。ポッチャマがすごくかわいくて大好きだったのもいっしょです（笑）。
ポッチャマの最終進化形のエンペルトを「私だけの相棒！」って感じで、コンテスト含め上げられるものはすべて上げ切りました。アニメでポッチャマのトレーナーだったヒカリと、私の名前が似ていることがなんだかちょっと誇らしく思っていたことを覚えています。
――現在放送中のテレビアニメ『ポケットモンスター』に出てくる中で、好きなポケモンはいますか？
松田 ニャオハもホゲータもクワッスもすごくかわいいので、ぜんぜん決められないんです。あと、パピモッチもすごくかわいいですよね～。どれか1匹ってなると選べなくて困っています（笑）。
松田 私はホゲータが大好きで、グッズが出たら絶対すぐにゲットしています！　先日もハロウィンをテーマにしたシリーズでホゲータのグッズが出たので、ポケモンセンターに駆け込んで手に入れました！

――ポケモングッズはどれくらいお持ちなのですか？
松田 ちょうどこの前整理したときに数えたんですが、ぬいぐるみだけで50匹以上うちにいました。ちょっと買いすぎているかもしれないですよね（笑）。ポケモンセンターにはシーズンごとに必ず行くようにしているんです。ポケモンセンターってポケモンの音楽が流れているのはもちろん、空間やスタッフさんの雰囲気も完全にポケモンの世界なんですよね。子どものころに初めて行ったときのキラキラとした感動がいまだに忘れられなくて。ついつい足が向かってしまいます。
――これまでに手に入れた中でいちばんお気に入りのグッズってどれですか？
松田 クリスマスシーズンに出たシリーズの、もふもふの頭巾をかぶったメッソンのラバーストラップが本当にかわいくて気に入っています。一時期はずっと手に握りしめてお出かけしていたくらいです（笑）。

――森田さんはホゲータのほかにもズルッグがお好きなんですよね。
松田 はい。お顔がすごくかわいくて、初めて出会ったときにひと目惚れしてしまいました。技を使う動作もかわいくて、とくに“にらみつける”をしているところがすごく好きです。「私も“にらみつける”されたい！」って思って見ています（笑）。
　でも、最近はホゲータに心を奪われちゃってます。じつは私、ゲームで最初に選ぶパートナーは必ずみずタイプのポケモンにしていたんですけど、今回だけはそのこだわりを曲げてでも、ホゲータを選んだんです。それくらい大好きになっちゃいました！

――松田さんはほかに気になるポケモンはいますか？
松田 イーブイが好きです。すごくかわいくて、小学生のころに現実でも出会えたらいいのにな～って思っていたのを覚えています。イーブイに限らず、ポケモンを見ると会いたい欲求が出ちゃうんです。 ――わかります。子どものころから願い続けている夢ですよね。さて、おふたりとも『ポケットモンスター ダイヤモンド・パール』が最初の思い出だったとのことですが、ポケモン関連のゲームでとくに思い入れのあるタイトルは何でしょうか。
松田 子どものころはゲームをほとんど買ってもらえなかったので、高校生になったころにちょうどリリースされた『ポケモンGO』をめっちゃ遊びました！　ポケモンを捕まえるために、友だちといっしょにふだんは行かないような場所にまで遠出したのを覚えています。

――いい思い出ですね！　森田さんはいかがですか？
森田　 私は『ポケットモンスター ダイヤモンド』からスタートして、『ポケットモンスター プラチナ』、『ポケットモンスター ハートゴールド』、『ポケットモンスターブラック』、『ポケットモンスター シールド』、『ポケットモンスター スカーレット』とプレイしてきました。でもやっぱり思い入れが強いのは最初にプレイした『ポケットモンスター ダイヤモンド』ですね。リメイク版の『ポケットモンスター ブリリアントダイヤモンド・シャイニングパール』もプレイしましたが、あのときのことを思い出しつつもまったく違う感覚で楽しめました！

――子どものころを思い出してプレイできるのがリメイクのいいところですよね。思い入れが強いという『ポケットモンスター ダイヤモンド』は、どれくらいプレイされていたんですか？
松田 ポケモンリーグのチャンピオンになった後、ポケモン図鑑を完成させたらデータを初期化して初めからやり直すというのを何周もやっていました。クリアーしてしまったら冒険が終わっちゃった気がして寂しくて。違うポケモンを仲間にしたり、違う道を選んだり、新鮮な気持ちで何度も何度もくり返して、冒険を楽しんでいました！
櫻坂46のゲーム事情。人狼ゲームをやるけど、みんな弱い。

――ファミ通という媒体ですので、おふたりとゲームの関わりについても聞かせてください。松田さんはFPSをプレイするためにゲーミングPCを購入したというエピソードがありますが、どういったきっかけがあったんですか？
松田 きっかけは大人になってからハマったゲーム配信でした。新型コロナウイルス感染症にかかってしまったとき、何だか世界から遮断された感じがしてすごく寂しかったんです。そのとき、偶然見つけたゲームの生配信を観ていると、同じ時間に同じものを楽しんでいる人がたくさんいることにすごく安心できました。観ていたのがFPSのゲームだったのですが、そこで初めてPCでゲームができるんだというのを知りました。それに憧れて、自分でもPCを買ってゲームをするようになりました。

――配信がきっかけでゲーミングPCを買われる行動力がすごいです！　森田さんはポケモン以外のゲームも遊ばれますか？
松田 ポケモンが多いですが、『どうぶつの森』シリーズも好きです。あとはリズムゲームとか。ほんわかのんびりとした雰囲気のゲームが好きです（笑）。
――櫻坂46の皆さんでいっしょにゲームを遊んだり、ゲームの話をしたりすることはありますか？
松田 人狼ゲームやワードウルフのようなアナログゲームは一時期よくやっていましたね。

――どなたが強いのですか？
松田 みんな弱いかも……（笑）。
松田 井上（梨名）はうまくなかった？
松田 質問するのはすごく上手だったよね。最後は負けちゃうんだけど（笑）。
松田 ゲームをするわけではないですが、三期生の山下瞳月ちゃんとか小田倉麗奈ちゃんとはポケモンの話をすることがあります。ヌオーのキーホルダーを付けているのを見つけたので、「これはお話しするきっかけになるかも！」と思って私から話しかけたんです。

――櫻坂46の後輩さんは何かしらポケモンのグッズを身に付けていれば、森田さんからお声掛けがあるかもしれないですね（笑）。
松田 見つけたら話しかけに行きます（笑）。
――最後に読者の皆さんにメッセージをお願いします。
松田 私は今回の楽曲を機に、ポケモンのことがさらに大好きになりました！　いつも私たちのことを応援してくださっているBuddies（櫻坂46ファンの総称）の皆さんにもきっと喜んでいただける楽曲になっていると思いますし、私と同じようにこの曲と出会ってくれてポケモンを好きになるきっかけになっていたらとてもうれしいです。 　すごく耳に残る楽曲になっているので、ポケモンファンの皆さんにも楽しんでもらえたらうれしいです。この曲を通してポケモンの魅力をもっと伝えていきたいですし、私自身もポケモン愛をどんどん深めていきたいと思っています。

"Rayquaza Rising", the new chapter of the Pocket Monsters TV show, started airing Friday October 11th. This new chapter, the 4th in the series, is set in the Land of Kitakami, one of the settings from the video game Pocket Monsters Scarlet/Violet: The Hidden Treasure of Zero, and is ordained by the ending "Pikkaan", a song by "Giga & TeddyLoid meets Rina Matsuda & Hikaru Morita (Sakurazaka46)". We've interviewed Matsuda and Morita about both Pokémon as a whole and the emotions they filled the ending with.

Q: Let's start by having you tell us about your memories associated with Pokémon!
Morita: I remember being in grade school when Pocket Monsters Platinum released, but my mother wouldn't buy it for me no matter how much I begged for it... However, when Christmas eventually arrived I asked Santa for it, and finally got it from him. I then proceeded to spend the entire winter vacation that year doing nothing but playing that game. Matsuda: I'm a complete rookie when it comes to Pokémon, but now that I think about it, I do feel like I've always been exposed to the franchise in some way ever since I was little. Like, I remember Pochama being really popular, and I remember humming "Watashi, makenai! - Haruka no thema" to myself (laughs).

Q: And how did you feel when you first learned you'd be singing an ending song for this series?
Matsuda: It came as a complete shock; At first I couldn't believe it was true. I'd always wanted to get to sing an anime theme song or ending theme, so it made me really happy this dream had come true.
Morita: I've always been a huge Pokémon fan, so it felt completely unreal that the day I'd get to sing a theme song for the franchise had actually come... At first it felt like I was dreaming. I remember the two of us were giddy like schoolgirls as we talked about how happy we were about this.

Q: Have you told the other members of Sakurazaka46 about this?
Morita: Not yet! We figured we'd like to surprise them.
Q: Are you able to predict how some of them will probably react?
Morita: Ten Yamasaki has often seen me buy Pokémon merch or stop by merch stores whenever we're on a trip together, so she knows I'm a Pokémon fan. I'm sure she'll be happy for me, and I kind of want to refrain from telling her until the episode airs so she'll get a little surprise while watching that... (laughs)
Matsuda: Rina Inoue knows how much I love singing, so I can picture her response being "Matchan, yokatta yan". Down to those exact words, even (laughs).

Q: The completed song ended up being really cool. What was your initial impression of it?
Matsuda: I'd never sung a song with this kind of feel to it before, so I was initially a bit nervous about whether or not I'd be able to sing it. It also made me really happy that I got to challenge myself in this manner, though.
Morita: When I first listened to the demo, I thought the song sounded really cool, and the Pokémon-esque encouraging lyrics and the hummable melody made it really fun to listen to. It made me really happy that I'd get to sing such a Pokémon-esque song.

Q: Did anything particularly memorable happen during the recording session?
Matsuda: Yes, during the recording session they had the two of us each sing the entire song all by ourselves, followed by Giga-san and TeddyLoid-san then picking which lines in the finished song would come from which singer. This was an entirely new experience for me, and I'm happy I got to try doing a song like this.
Q: Were there any parts of the song you particularly hoped would get assigned to you?
Matsuda: Yes, while I would've been happy with their decisions no matter what they were, I did have a slight hope I'd be given certain parts that I had to keep in check (laughs). As I said, not knowing which parts of a song would be mine was an all new experience for me, and I found it both novel and fun.
Morita: I found it to be a valuable experience as well; This is the first time I had my focus specifically on singing in a cheerful and lively manner, and I got a lot of detailed direction from Giga-san and TeddyLoid-san. I was initially very nervous about the whole ordeal, but as I kept singing, that nervousness gradually changed to enjoyment.

Q: Are there any parts of the song you'd consider your favorite?
Matsuda: The very start of the song is really catchy, and I personally really like how, when the song goes "Yatchae Big Up!", that "Big Up!" bit sounds like "Pika!". I think the lyrics help make this a really encouraging song.
Morita: The bit in the second chorus that goes "Batsugun na suteki-ing negai" actually makes me picture Pokémon and Trainers battling when I hear it. It's a really upbeat and exciting chorus that made me create little battles in my head while listening to it (laughs).

Q: Do you have any specific input on each others' singing in this song?
Matsuda: While I've always enjoyed both the sound of Morita's voice and the way she sings, I have to say I found the way she handled the rap portion of the song really cool! Her voice was a perfect fit for that part, and I probably wouldn't have been able to imitate her even if I tried. Of course, she also sounds really cute when that's what she's going for! Morita: I'm so happy to hear you say that. It's really rare to get opinions on your singing when you perform as part of a group (laughs).
Q: And Morita-san, what do you have to say about Matsuda-san's singing?
Morita: She did such a good job at the "Takusareta omoi ga" bit that I was positive she'd get that part of the song assigned to her. While she's able to hit the high notes as well, I really like it when she sings low; Her low entry in this bit is really captivating and kind of gives her voice a sense of storytelling to it, don't you think?
Matsuda: It's nice to be complimented on my low notes! It's usually my high notes I get praise for.

Q: This is a very positive and encouraging song. What do you two personally do to get yourselves back up and going when you're feeling down?
Matsuda: Calling my family or just idling around without a thought in my head usually makes me feel better. Spending time with the other members of the group just laughing about silly stuff is also really fun and helps me forget any sadness I was feeling.
Morita: Personally I tend to eat something tasty, get some good sleep, and then take a short walk. I also really like taking pictures, so I'll snap some shots of everyday scenes as well; Getting a good picture cheers me up and makes me forget about my troubles.

Q: This is only slightly related to the previous question, but do you have a "partner" of sorts that makes you feel safe?
Matsuda: Yes, my notepad. It's essentially a notebook on my smartphone, and I use it to write down our position numbers for concerts. When I talk to the audience between songs, I also prepare notes about what I'm going to talk about so I can take a quick look at them beforehand. That notepad has pretty much become my protective charm at this point.
Q: Have you always been taking a lot of notes?
Matsuda: I started really valuing notetaking while I was working for this company after graduating high school, and it's stuck with me ever since. The notes I take are actually pretty detailed; Like, instead of just the position number, I also include things like which other members will be standing in the same row as me... so I guess maybe I just enjoy taking notes?
Morita: Hearing that answer makes me a bit hesitant to give you my own, but... my "partner" is candy (laughs). I really love candy and just can't live without eating two or three candy bars a day. I make sure to carry three of them in my purse at all times, and whenever I run out I panic and have to go buy more right away. I do stock up on them too, but I always end up eating everything in one sitting.
Matsuda: That's true, I constantly see Morita snacking on candy. She'll often share it with me too, so if I get hungry, I can always go to her for some candy (laughs).
Morita: Any time (laughs).

テレビアニメ『ポケットモンスター』の新章『レックウザ ライジング』が、10月11日（金）から放送スタート。第4章となる新章では、ゲーム『ポケットモンスター スカーレット・バイオレット ゼロの秘宝』の舞台の一つであるキタカミの里が物語の舞台になり展開されます。そんな本作のエンディグを彩るのは、Giga＆TeddyLoid meets 松田里奈＆森田ひかる（櫻坂46）による楽曲「ピッカーン！」です。今回クランクイン！トレンドは、松田と森田にインタビューを実施。『ポケモン』やエンディングに込めた思いを聞きました。（取材・文＝ふくだりょうこ／写真＝小川遼）

■ED担当に決まったことは「メンバーにはまだ秘密」

――まずはポケモンの思い出を教えてください！
森田：『ポケットモンスタープラチナ』が小学生のときに出たんですけど、絶対欲しくて母にお願いしたものの買ってもらえなくて…。クリスマスまで待って、サンタさんにお願いしたら届いていて、その年の冬休みはずっと『プラチナ』で遊び尽くした思い出があります。
松田：私はポケモン新参者なのですが、改めて考えると小さな頃から『ポケモン』はずっと身近にあったなと感じています。ポッチャマが人気だったなとか、「私、負けない！ ～ハルカのテーマ～」を口ずさんでいたなって思い出しました（笑）。

――そんな『ポケモン』シリーズで、エンディング曲を歌うことが決まったときの気持ちを教えてください。
松田：本当に驚いて信じられませんでした。いずれアニメの主題歌やエンディングテーマを歌わせていただけたらと考えていたので、その夢が一つかなってすごくうれしかったです。
森田：もともとポケモンが大好きなので、そのポケモンの主題歌を歌える日が来るとは…最初は本当に夢の中にいるような気持ちでした。ふわふわしながら「うれしいね」って2人で話していました。

――メンバーの皆さんにはこのことはお伝えしたんですか？
松田：まだ言っていないんですよ！　メンバーを驚かせちゃおうかなと思って。

――「こういうリアクションをしそうだな」と想像できるメンバーはいますか？
森田：山崎天は普段から一緒にお出かけしたときに、私がポケモングッズを買ったり、グッズコーナーに寄ったりしているのを見て、ポケモン好きだと知ってくれているので、きっと喜んでくれるんじゃないかなと勝手に予想しています。放送まで言わずにちょっと驚いてほしいなっていう気持ちも少しあったりして…（笑）。
松田：同期の井上梨名は私が歌を大好きだと知っているので、「まっちゃん、よかったやん」って言ってくれそうだなって勝手に想像しています。今言われる言葉まで想像できました（笑）。

■チャレンジでもあった楽曲

――すごく格好いい曲に仕上がっていますが、最初に聴かれたときの印象はいかがでしたか？
松田：「歌えるかな？」と思うぐらい今まで歌ったことがない雰囲気の楽曲だったので、少し不安がありました。でも、そういった曲にチャレンジできることがすごくうれしかったです。
森田：デモを聞かせていただいて、格好いいなと思いました！　そして、ポケモンらしい勇気づけられる歌詞や、口ずさみたくなるようなメロディーもあって聴いていて楽しかったですね。ポケモンらしい楽曲を歌えることがすごくうれしいです。

――レコーディングで印象に残っていることはありますか？
松田：今回のレコーディングでは、まず一通り1人で歌い、後から歌割をGigaさんとTeddyLoidさんが決める形だったんです。そういうやり方はグループでも経験がなく初めてだったので、チャレンジできたことがうれしかったです。

――通しで歌ってみて「ここが歌いたい」と希望されたパートもあったんですか？
松田：歌割りはどこになってもうれしかったんですけど、確かにそういう欲は少し出そうになったので抑えつつ…（笑）。どのパートを担当するか分からないのは、今までにない経験だったので、新鮮で楽しかったですね。
森田：とにかく明るく元気に歌うことを意識したのは初めてで、GigaさんとTeddyLoidさんに細かくいろいろディレクションもしていただき、貴重な経験になりました。歌っているときは緊張していましたけど、やっぱり「すごく楽しい！」という思いにどんどん変わっていきました。

――全体を通してお気に入りの部分はありますか？
松田：冒頭部分は耳に残りますし、個人的に「やっちゃえ　Big Up！」のところは「Big Up！」が「ピカッ！」って聴こえるのが好きです。歌詞も頑張る背中を押してくれるような曲だなと思っています。
森田：2サビの「ばつぐんな素敵ing 願い」のところは実際にポケモンたちやトレーナーたちが戦っている映像が頭に浮かびます。サビは聴いていてワクワクしますし、私自身、脳内でちょっと戦わせていました（笑）。

――今回の楽曲を通してお互いの歌声で印象に残った部分などはありますか？
松田：もともと森田の歌声や歌い方が好きだったんですけど、今回ラップの部分がすごく格好よくて！　声質的に合っていましたし、まねしようとしても、多分私にはできなかったので、そこの部分はすごく好きですね。もちろん、かわいい部分はかわいいし！
森田：えー！　うれしいです。普段、グループで活動していると歌の感想を聞く機会はあまりないので（笑）。

――逆に森田さんは松田さんの歌を聴いて、いかがですか。
森田：「託された想いが～」のところは、歌割りが決まる前から「ここは松田が歌った方が絶対にいい」と思うぐらいすごく上手でした。松田は高音も出るんですけど、私は彼女の低い歌声も好きなんです。最初に低く入っていくのが格好よくて、なんだかストーリー性のある歌声だなと思ってワクワクしますよね。
松田：わりと高音を褒めていただくことの方が多いので、低音を褒められたのはうれしいです！

■落ち込んだときはどうしてる？

――すごくポジティブで元気をもらえる楽曲ですが、お2人は落ち込んだときにどうやって乗り越えていますか？
松田：いろんなパターンがありますね。家族と電話したり、何も考えずにダラダラ過ごしたりすると元気になれます。それに、メンバーとくだらないことで笑っている時間は本当に楽しいですし、落ち込むことがあっても忘れられます。
森田：私はとにかくおいしいものを食べて、たくさん寝て、あとは少しお散歩に行ったりします。写真を撮ることが好きなので、日常の風景を撮って、いい写真が撮れたら気分が上がっちゃって忘れられます。

――そういう癒やしじゃないですけど、相棒的な存在はありますか？　これがあると「安心する！」というような。
松田：メモ帳です。基本的にスマホのメモなんですけど、ライブのときに自分たちの立ち位置の番号を書いています。MCをすることがあるので、その内容を書いたメモはすぐに見られるようにしていますね。これはライブでは大事なお守りになっています。

――昔からメモはよく取るほうだったんですか？
松田：高校卒業後に会社に勤めていたときがあるんですけど、そのときもメモはとても大事にしていたので、その名残です。番号だけではなくて、同じ列に誰がいるかなど細かくメモするタイプなので、メモ好きかもしれないです。
森田：ちょっとこの後に言い難いんですけど…私はお菓子ですね（笑）。本当にお菓子が好きで、1日2個から3個食べないと生きていけない人なんです。カバンにも3個は絶対入れていますし、お菓子が切れたら「早く買いに行きたい！」って焦っちゃいます。ストックはしているんですけど、1回で食べきっちゃうんですよね。
松田：食べているところも結構見ますし、逆に「これおいしいよ」っておすそ分けしてもらいます。もしお腹がすいたら、森田のとこに行けばお菓子食べられるなって（笑）。
森田：いつでも配れます（笑）。

The Stall Operator is voiced by Masaki Terasoma, who also played played Mitsuha's father in Kimi no na wa. This episode seemed to pay homage to that movie in the scene where Roy and Achigator realize they've switched bodies.
