Summary
While everyone is on Lapras, Ash is admiring his badges. Misty thinks it's really cool how all the badges are sea shells. Tracey tells Ash that he only needs two more badges to get in the Orange League. According to Ash, the next gym battles will be easy, but Misty and Tracey aren't too sure about that. They come close to Moral Island. Ash decides to head there so that they can find a Pokémon Center.

Once they reach the Pokémon Center, they give Professor Oak a call. Professor Oak holds up a newspaper stating that there's a sunken ship holding a 300 year old trophy from the Orange League. The trophy is on display at the Moral Island Museum of Art. Tracey suggests that they see the trophy tomorrow morning. Meanwhile, Team Rocket is breaking in the museum. They climb through a window, and slide down by using a rope. They are in search for the trophy. Meowth says that they will bring the boss the trophy as a present. The boss might even give them a bonus. Jessie shines the flashlight on the trophy. Meowth says that there are security beams around the trophy. He takes out a pair of glasses that lets him see the beams. They lower James down on a rope to get the trophy. James gets the trophy, and they run out of the museum. James trips on a rock, and he falls to the ground. Jessie and Meowth tells him not to break it. A huge marking is carved into the ground of the trophy.

The next day, Ash and co. arrives at the museum. They notice that there's a lot of people outside. Officer Jenny tells them that the trophy has been stolen. The only clues that they have are footprints and an imprint of someone carrying the trophy. Ash really wanted to see the trophy. The group is walking on the road. A leg is extended out. The leg belongs to James. Jessie and Meowth are beside him. Ash and co. looks over the bush to only find out that Team Rocket stole the trophy. Team Rocket starts to run away. When they get to the bottom of the stairs, the say their motto. Meowth hands the trophy to James, and they find a pedalboat. They begin to pedal away. Ash and co. aren't too far behind. Ash sends out Lapras, and they start to chase Team Rocket.

The current is pulling Team Rocket away. Soon, a bunch of fog is let out. Ash and co. are in the fog too. They can hardly see anything ahead. Team Rocket comes across an old ship. They aboard the ship, and find out that no one is there. They decide to use the ship as a good hideout. James says the word "haunted," and Team Rocket gets scared. The ship looks haunted and abandoned. A figure appears behind them. Team Rocket runs away, but they fall in a hole. Ash and co. comes across the same ship. Tracey wonders if the ship is haunted with ghosts or not. They spot Team Rocket's boat, and they decide to set foot on the ship.

They search the boat for Team Rocket. Misty feels like they are being watched. A mast from the ship falls which almost hits Misty. Togepi springs out of Misty's arms, and it falls into a hole.

They call out for Togepi, but no one responds to their call. Ash goes near a door. The door opens by itself, and Ash doesn't see anything inside. Meanwhile, Togepi awakens, and it begins to walk around. Team Rocket is trying to find their way to the top of the ship. Someone taps Jessie on the shoulder. She hits James, but James says that he's busy carrying the trophy. Meowth is infront of Jessie. Jessie looks behind her, and they see a ghost. Another ghost appears. It grabs on the trophy. Jessie and Meowth pulls on James's leg. The second ghost licks Jessie and Meowth causing them to fall over. The two ghosts successfully gets the trophy and they float away.

Tracey sends out Marill to help find Togepi. Marill hears something, and they run to a door. Inside the door is a shadow. The shadow belongs to Togepi. Misty sighs in relief. She walks to Togepi, but the same two ghosts surrounds Togepi. Misty sends out Staryu. Staryu picks up the sheets, and the ghosts are revealed as Gastly and Haunter. Ash looks up Gastly and Haunter in his Pokédex. Ash sends out Bulbasaur to attack, but Gastly and Haunter are only playing with Togepi. They wonder why Gastly and Haunter are on the ship. Set on a table is the trophy. Ash and co. approaches the trophy, but Gastly and Haunter blocks their path.

Team Rocket rushes in the door. James sends out his Victreebel, and Jessie sends out Arbok. Victreebel uses Razor Leaf, but the leaves have no effect on Gastly. Arbok uses Tackle, but Arbok goes right through Haunter. Gastly uses Night Shade on Victreebel. Then Haunter sends out a Confuse Ray at Arbok. Confused, Arbok attacks Team Rocket. Haunter walks up to Meowth, and uses him as a puppet. Haunter is controlling Meowth so that it can talk to Ash and co. They say that they have been guarding the trophy for centuries. Their master was the captain of the ship. One night a storm occured, and the ship sunked to the bottom of the sea. Humans took the trophy away from them. Gastly and Haunter raised the ship to the surface in search of the captain's treasure. Gastly and Haunter brings Ash and co. to the past where the captain wins the Orange League trophy. Ash and co. now see why the trophy cannot be stolen.

Haunter is done controlling Meowth. Team Rocket still wants the trophy. Pikachu uses a Thunderbolt on Team Rocket. Haunter sends them blasting off into the sky. As Ash and co. get on Lapras, Gastly and Haunter moves the ship to another place where nobody can find them. They watch the ship as it slowly drifts away.
