Summary
Fireworks shoot in the sky as Gary and another trainer face off in a battle. Gary's cheerleaders are cheering for him, and Ash and co. sit in the audience wondering if Gary will win or not. Gary's opponent is Melissa. She is using a Golem, and Gary is using a Nidoking. Nidoking strikes Golem with a Horn Attack, but Golem catches Nidoking's horn. Golem uses Seismic Toss causing Nidoking to faint. Melissa wins the battle. Ash and co. are surprised that Gary lost. Misty notices the amount of competition. The cheerleaders are in the car crying. Gary is about to go home when Ash comes up to him. Gary tells Ash that Melissa was lucky. He hopes in the car and takes off.

Ash tells Pikachu that he can't believe that Gary lost. He asks Pikachu if they should quit. Just then, Brock comes up to Ash. Brock tells Ash to not even think about quitting. Misty yells out to Ash that his match on the Grass Field will be starting in any minute. Meanwhile, Jessie, James, and Meowth are at a souvenier stand selling items. Meowth reminds his friends that they came to steal some Pokémon. James is having a good time selling their items. He begins to water his Victreebel, and Victreebel sucks James up again. A customer walks up to the stand. He notices that their badges are sold out. Meowth tells him that there might be some left. He goes in the stock room and pulls out badges that were made out of bottle caps. They are all fake!

The battle with Ash is about to start. Misty can't believe that Ash didn't want her and Brock to coach him from the sidelines. Brock believes that Ash wants to win the battle himself. Brock looks in his handbook and sees that Ash's opponent is Janet Fisher. A red carpet appears and Janet comes out. Janet's cheering section begins to cheer for her. Brock falls in love with Janet. Ash sends out Bulbasaur and Janet sends out Beedrill. Beedrill starts off with a Tackle. Bulbasaur barely dodges the attack. Bulbasaur shoots off a Razor Leaf at Beedrill, but Beedrill counters the attack with Twineedle. Then Beedrill uses Poison Sting. Bulbasaur does its best to dodge the attacks. Misty hopes that Janet doesn't have any Pokémon like Beedrill. Brock hopes that Janet doesn't have a boyfriend. Misty exclaims at Brock saying that he won't be Janet's boyfriend. Ash realizes that Beedrill is winning. He commands Bulbasaur to use Leech Seed. Bulbasaur uses Leech Seed which sucks up Beedrill's energy. Bulbasaur uses one last Tackle, putting Beedrill out of the match.

Janet recalls back Beedrill and sends out Scyther. Misty wonders if Ash is ready to battle Scyther or not. Scyther uses Slash, but Bulbasaur dodges them all. Then Scyther uses Quick Attack. Bulbasaur tries to counter with Vine Whip, but the attack fails. Janet congratulates Scyther. Scyther uses Double Team to make sure Ash loses even sooner. Two additional copies appear on the field. Ash stands there thinking of what he should do.

He orders Bulbasaur to use Vine Whip. The Vine Whip misses the Scyther in the middle. Bulbasaur goes for the right one next, but the real Scyther happens to be the one on the left. Scyther slams right into Bulbasaur. Bulbasaur leaps right back to its feet. Bulbasaur does manage to dodge the next series of attacks that Scyther launches. Bulbasaur uses a series of Razor Leaf and Vine Whip attacks, but Scyther is just too fast. Scyther slams into Bulbasaur again. Ash gets an idea. He tells Bulbasaur to use Vine Whip on all the copies. Bulbasaur does this, and the real Scyther is pinned to the ground. Bulbasaur wins the second match.

Misty and Brock are proud for Ash. Janet now only has one Pokémon left. Meanwhile, Team Rocket's balloon is floating above the league. A bunch of Pikachu balloons are hanging under the balloon. Jessie and James are getting a hose ready. They plan to steal everyones' Pokémon while everyone eyes their balloon. Two Officer Jennys sees Team Rocket's balloon. Arcanine uses Flamethrower, which burns the balloon to the ground. Nevertheless, James tries to turn on the hose, but it doesn't work. The Officer Jennys have stopped Team Rocket's plan. They chase Team Rocket into the bleachers. They crash into the wall. Team Rocket quickly dresses up as food salesmen.

Janet's final Pokémon is Bellsprout. Ash wonders why Janet would choose a Bellsprout as her last Pokémon. Bulbasaur uses Tackle, but surprisingly Bellsprout ducks backwards and avoids the attack. Bulbasaur charges at Bellsprout again, but Bellsprout picks Bulbasaur up and throws it to the ground. Brock realizes that Bellsprout is absorbing Bulbasaur's attacks and throwing the attacks against Bulbasaur. Then Bellsprout picks Bulbasaur up and throws it against a wall. Bellsprout wins the match. Ash chooses Pikachu next. Pikachu uses Thundershock, but Bellsprout dodges the attack. Bellsprout uses Razor Leaf. Pikachu dodges the attack, and the leaves slice a rock in half. Pikachu hits Bellsprout with a Thunderbolt, however Bellsprout doesn't receive any damage. Janet tells Ash that Bellsprout's legs act as lightning rods, so electric attacks won't work. Pikachu tries to fight with its physical strength instead. It aims some punches at Bellsprout, but with Bellsprout's great speed, it manages to dodge them all. Bellsprout then slams its leg on Pikachu's head. Pikachu faints causing Bellsprout to win again.

Now each trainer has one Pokémon left. Misty and Brock are worried that Ash might lose the battle. Suddenly, Mrs. Ketchum and Professor Oak appears next to Misty and Brock. They came to cheer Ash on. Ash's final Pokémon is Muk. Misty never knew that Ash had Muk. Professor Oak tells her that Ash requested it. Bellsprout aims a kick at Muk, but Muk just absorbs the attack. Bellsprout uses a series of attacks, but Muk doesn't take in any damage. Then Muk uses Body Slam. Bellsprout tries to get free, but it can't. Bellsprout is knocked out, and Ash wins the battle. The audience cheers for Ash. Misty can't believe that Ash won on all four fields. Meanwhile, Team Rocket have sold everything. Jessie and James think that selling stuff is more fun than stealing stuff. They think up of a fast food restaurant idea.

Misty tells Ash that he did a good job. She says, "If it wasn't for Muk, you'll be out of luck." Muk gives Misty a hug. Now Ash has beaten all four trainers. Can he win the league?
