Friday is Pokémon Anime Day! However... the show is on a break today, so we'll instead present some behind-the-scenes details on the production of the Mega Voltage opening theme Get Back from its creators, the two members of Yuzu!
The song is now available for streaming as well:
Check out the creditless version of the animation on the official Pokémon Youtube channel too!

YUZU TALKS ABOUT BEHIND-THE-SCENES DETAILS ON THE POCKET MONSTERS MEGA VOLTAGE OPENING THEME "GET BACK":

How did you go about writing the song and the lyrics?
Kitagawa: When we were contacted about doing this song during our nationwide Arena Tour, the words "GET BACK" immediately came to my mind, and made us start working on a song with the concept of "getting back a stolen future" and "getting back to where we started". When it comes to the musical style, we worked with TeddyLoid-kun to create a tune with the concept of "an anime song from the Yuzu of the Reiwa era", mixing in elements of modern Japanese culture sprinkled with both the history and elements of the various anime songs we've heard up to this point. It's structured like a kind of suite, which I think makes for a song that lets you enjoy the new and unexpected result of the Yuzu x Pokémon combination.

What did you want to convey through this song?
Iwasawa: I envisioned that the lyrics would convey protagonists Liko and Roy's sentiments and emotions, praise their ascent to the next stage, as well as excite both viewers and listeners. The first chorus represents Liko and the second represents Roy, and I think the difference in the lyrics between them that was made possible specifically because they're a duo was a really good fit for the song. Recording it was a lot of fun and filled with magic.

Do you have anything you want to say about the Pokémon anime?
Kitagawa: The anime has been on the air for over 27 years now, which has required it to evolve over time. Not only do I think it's absolutely amazing how long it's lasted, I also have nothing but respect for the way a show with this much history has been able to appeal to generation after generation. As a viewer, I'm also personally really looking forward to the new Mega Voltage chapter.

Iwasawa: Everyone loves Pokémon no matter what era or generation they're from, and I think their recollections and the happy memories of moments they've shared with their respective partners have come to define everyone's youth at this point. I have high expectations for the new chapter.

Finally, do you have any Pokémon-related memories you'd like to share?
Kitagawa: I've always really enjoyed drawing, so ever since I first learned we were going to do this opening theme, I've been hard at work practicing my Pikachu drawing skills (laughs).
Iwasawa: My Masquernya won't level up any more. Someone please trade me an Achamo. I want to complete the zukan. Let's see, what else should I say...? Oh, I know: Back in the day, I caught Mewtwo in a monster ball! And one more thing: False Sweep rocks! ...Sorry. I'm a big fan (laughs).
