Summary
Team Rocket are on the beach. James and Meowth are ready to capture Pikachu, however Jessie would rather relax on the beach for a bit. James and Meowth shout at Jessie that she is just being lazy. Wobbuffet is also lying out in the sun. Suddenly, something in the water speeds towards Team Rocket. The thing hits them, causing them to blast off into the sky.

It's finally morning for Ash and Pikachu. Ash wants to start his training right away. Lotad brings Ash and Pikachu some water so that they can wash their face. Brock, May, and Max are getting ready for their day too. Ash takes out all of his Pokémon. They sit on the edge of a cliff. Ash and his Pokémon close their eyes. Ash says that they have to learn how to concentrate better. When the Pokémon can feel the waves from the ocean closing in on them, react to them quickly. Ash tells them to think of the waves as their opponents. May is surprised at how Ash is training his Pokémon. Max tells his sister that Ash is taking it really seriously. Brock tells May and Max that Ash's training might work because Ash and his Pokémon need patience. A wave comes closing in on them. Taillow is the first to notice the wave. Ash tells Taillow to react as soon as the wave is about to hit them. When the wave is a few yards behind them, they try to quickly run and dodge the wave. Unfortunately, they reacted too late, and Ash and his Pokémon get washed up by the wave.

Ash and his Pokémon try it again, but this time Treecko is the one that gets covered by the wave because it waited too long. Ash doesn't understand why they aren't making any progress. May tells him that practice makes perfect. Ash shouts at May that she should be training for her Pokémon contests too. Max thinks Ash is right. May will show Ash, Brock, and May the practicing she has done. She states that a Pokémon's entrance is very important. She dances and sends out Torchic and Wurmple at the same time. Her two Pokémon begin to act up. May tells them that they are doing it wrong. Brock and Max explain to May that you can't dance, and you can't send out two Pokémon at once.

Suddenly, something begins to shake in the tent. The tent is released from the ground, and something starts pulling it away. The tent crashes into a tree. Something underground is moving. Pikachu can't use Thunderbolt, otherwise it would burn the tent down. Wurmple uses String Shot. The web attaches on the moving thing. Wurmple tries to pull, but the moving thing is too powerful for Wurmple. Wurmple is starting to move away. Treecko jumps up and grabs onto Wurmple. The moving thing is still too strong. Ash and co. run to help Wurmple and Treecko. They pull on the string, but the moving thing is still too powerful. It isn't even slowing down. The moving thing runs towards the water. Ash and co. fall right in it.

Because Ash and co.'s clothes are wet, they have to hang them up to dry. They wonder what Pokémon could've done that. They come up with a few possibilities such as Aron and Krabby. Brock mentions that the Pokémon will probably come back. Ash wants to find out what Pokémon it is and then capture it. Max and Brock are curious too, but May is scared to find out.

Team Rocket have blasted off to a side of the mountain. Jessie wants her revenge on whatever caused them to blast off. Down below, she sees something move in the sand. They think that whatever is moving in the sand was the thing that caused them to blast off. Jessie runs towards it. While she is running, she accidently steps on a sleeping Loudred. The Loudred wakes up and uses a Hyper Voice to blast Team Rocket off again.

At night, Ash and co. hide behind some bushes. They have placed some Pokémon food out near the shore to act as bait. May is still scared about the whole thing. She wants to leave, however the rest of the group still wants to stay and find out what the Pokémon is. Max tells May to stay in the tent, but May is too scared to even stay in the tent. Ash thinks this is perfect training because it builds up patience and concentration. Suddenly, Pikachu hears something. The same thing comes up from behind Ash and co. and knocks them into the sand. The thing moves straight through the Pokémon food, and then it turns back. It starts to chase May. Pikachu uses Thunderbolt. The attack reveals a part of the Pokémon, and then the Pokémon disappears.

Ash and co. haven't gotten any sleep at all. May wants to leave, but Ash, Max, and Brock want to stay and find out what the thing was. Ash tells them that he saw something that looked like a red horn when Pikachu used Thunderbolt. Ash is positive that the thing will come back, so they have to now trap it.

Forretress digs a hole in the sand with Rapid Spin. Then Ash covers the hole with some leaves. Max notices that Ash is using Team Rocket's strategy. At night, all the holes have been dugged, and more Pokémon food has been laid out. Brock reviews the plan with his friends again. Suddenly, four creatures with seaweed all over them walk up. They spot the Pokémon food and begin eating it. Because they are eating the Pokémon food, Ash and co. assume that they are Pokémon. Brock lays out some more Pokémon food. The creatures notice it, and they walk over to it. Before they can reach the food, they fall in the hole. The creatures happen to be Team Rocket. They are angry that they fell into Ash and co.'s hole. The thing from before is in the hole too. It blasts Team Rocket off again.

Max notices the thing. The thing climbs out of the hole, and it goes straight for the Pokémon food. Pikachu uses Quick Attack. It quickly runs towards the Pokémon food and then knocks the thing out of the sand. The thing happens to be a Corphish. Ash looks up Corphish in his Pokédex. Because Corphish is a powerful Pokémon, Ash desperately wants to capture it. Ash uses Pikachu because it has the type advantage against Corphish.

Pikachu starts off by using Thunderbolt, but Corphish dodges the attack. Corphish jumps up and fires a Bubblebeam at Pikachu. Then Corphish buries itself underground. Corphish tackles Pikachu from beneath it. Pikachu then tries to use Iron Tail, but Corphish ends up catching Pikachu's tail. Corphish finally swings Pikachu to Ash. Brock is surprised at the abilities Corphish can use. It was able to block every single one of Pikachu's attacks.

Ash sends out Treecko. Ash tells Treecko to wait for Corphish's move. Treecko closes its eyes. The sun begins to rise. Corphish, impatient that Treecko isn't doing anything, attacks with Bubblebeam. Treecko senses the attack, and counters the bubbles with Pound. Then Corphish prepares a Crabhammer attack. Treecko uses Quick Attack and strikes Corphish down before it can atttack. Finally, Treecko hits Corphish with another Pound. Ash throws his Pokéball at Corphish and captures it.

Ash congratulates Treecko for doing a good job. Brock tells Ash that his training was put to good use. Ash then takes out Corphish. He tells Corphish that it is now apart of his team. Corphish and Ash shake hands. Corphish shakes Ash's hand a bit too hard and throws Ash into the sand. Now that Ash has a Corphish, he must continue to train for his second gym battle at the Dewford Gym.
