Summary
The Pacifidlog Town Pokémon Contest has finally begun. This Contest is May’s last chance at entering the Grand Festival and she must face her new friend Joshua in the first round of the Battle Rounds.

Outside, Ash, Pikachu, and Snorunt are doing some jogging and Snorunt fires an Ice Beam. An apple freezes and falls off a tree, rolling to Pikachu. Pikachu picks it up and fumbles with it as it is cold. Snorunt fires off another Ice Beam as James comes running down the path carrying a heavy bag. He slips on the ice, and slides straight into a wall. Back at the Contest, the battle of The Jesster VS Erika begins. Once again, Erika imagines winning the Contest with Joshua and Mr. Contesta giving them both Ribbons. Back at the battle, Erika orders a Lovely Kiss so The Jesster orders Meowth to dodge and then use Fury Swipes. Meowth does, but stops short of the Fury Swipes to get away from Jynx’s kisses. Jynx chases Meowth around the battlefield as Vivian watches, stunned. The crowd starts to get mad as The Jesster loses some points.

The Jesster orders Meowth to use Transform. Meowth says he doesn’t know that attack, and then remembers that The Jesster and James installed a pocket of costumes on his stomach. Erika orders a Hyper Beam from Jynx as he whips into a Sunflora costume. Everyone is stunned, including Jynx, who stops her Ice Beam. In the stands, Brock and Max stare at it; outside, Ash says to Snorunt and Pikachu that he didn’t know Meowth could learn Transform. Sukizo calls it “remarkable!”

The Jesster orders a Razor Leaf from Meowth and he obliges; Jynx uses Blizzard to freeze them. The Jesster loses some more points as Meowth Transforms into a Kirlia. Erika orders a Lovely Kiss, so The Jesster orders Meowth to dodge followed by a Double Team. The Judges start to get suspicious when it doesn't work. The Jesster covers it up with another Transform. This time, Meowth changes into Wailord. Backstage, James cheers to himself as Jynx uses Psychic. Meowth is lifted into the air; he starts flailing and ends up popping the Wailord balloon he's in. Meowth and the balloon go flying into the air as the Judges disqualify The Jesster. James runs out and the two of them take off their costumes. They say their motto once again, and then they attempt to use a net to steal Jynx. Meowth washes the blue paint off his face (for blending in with the Wailord balloon) as Jynx flips the net over Team Rocket with a Psychic attack. Erika then proceeds to have them blasted off again with a Hyper Beam.

Ash comes into the stands in time to see them go through the roof. On the way to the battlefield, May meets Erika and they argue once again. Erika then remembers her and Joshua training together. Joshua told her that he wanted them to train alone instead of together all the time. She didn’t understand why.

Joshua and May’s battle gets well under way quickly. Joshua orders a Swift from Houndoom. May commands that Skitty dodges and then uses Tackle. Houndoom gets hit but rebounds by dodging Skitty’s next attack (Doubleslap) and hitting it with Shadow Ball. The points even up as May calls for a Blizzard. Joshua counters with a Flamethrower and it easily overtakes Blizzard. Skitty flies backwards and May loses more points.

Ash tells May not to lose focus as Houndoom fires a Swift. May tells Skitty to use Assist, and she gets Razor Leaf. The Razor Leaf overpowers Swift and Skitty hits Houndoom again with Tackle. May orders a Doubleslap from Skitty but it ends up getting hit by a Shadow Ball.

Houndoom then uses another Flamethrower, and Skitty blocks it with Blizzard. This time, Blizzard’s strength matches that of Flamethrower. Joshua tells Houndoom to use full power, while May calls for Skitty to “turn it up!” The attacks create an explosion as the time runs out. With May ahead on points, she is declared the winner. And all through the battle, Erika began to realize something: Joshua and May were battling their fullest because they were friends, and nothing more.

The time comes for Erika and May to battle each other for the Ribbon. The two meet in the middle and shake hands. Erika tells May that she’s sorry for being rude earlier. Vivian compliments them on their sportsmanship and the final battle begins. May orders Skitty to use Tackle but Jynx blocks it with Psychic. Hanging Skitty in the air, Jynx uses Lovely Kiss and Skitty falls asleep. Jynx uses a Blizzard attack and Skitty awakens. May and Erika have both lost points, May twice as many. May calls for an Assist, and gets a String Shot. Another Assist produces a Razor Leaf and the strings fall off of Jynx. Joshua watches the two newly reconciled friend battle it out with a smile on his face.

Erika orders another Psychic attack and Skitty soars above the crowd again. Jynx launches a Blizzard and Skitty counters with Assist. Another Assist and a Vine Whip comes out. Jynx stops the vines with Psychic, so Skitty uses Assist again. This time, it gets a Petal Dance. The Petal Dance hurts Jynx and, with 29 seconds left, Erika has over double the points that May does. Erika orders a Hyper Beam to finish off Skitty as it uses Assist one more time. A Fire Spin meets Hyper Beam in the middle and overpowers it. Jynx gets a face full of fire as Skitty uses Tackle. Jynx faints and May is declared the winner of the Pacifidlog Ribbon. May is awarded the Ribbon as her friends stand around her. Doing her victory pose, May proudly bears her Ribbon and her entry into the Grand Festival.

Later that evening, May and her friends meet up with Erika and Joshua outside the Contest Hall. Joshua congratulates May on her win and Erika explains that she realized why Joshua wanted to train alone: to grow and compete as rivals while remaining friends. Ash and friends wave goodbye as they walk down the street while Erika and Joshua remain at the entrance to the Hall. And with her fifth Ribbon in hand, it’s time for the Pokémon League!

English Official Summary

The second round of the Pacifidlog Contest begins! Erica and her Jynx face a suspiciously familiar team—the Jester and Meowth. Meowth is afraid of Jynx, so the Jester orders him to use Transform. Meowth disguises himself as a Sunflora, then a Kirlia, and finally a Wailord, but the scam is uncovered. The Jester reveals herself as Jessie and Team Rocket tries to snatch Jynx, but its Hyper Beam puts a stop to that! Erica jealously watches Joshua and Houndoom battle May and Skitty. The winner depends on which attack is stronger: Houndoom's Flamethrower or Skitty's Blizzard! They're well-matched, but Houndoom finally stumbles. With time up, May is ahead of Joshua in the points. On the final contest stage, Erica realizes May and Joshua both gave it their best. That matters more than petty jealousy, so Erica apologizes and shakes May's hand. Once their battle starts, Skitty has a hard time with Jynx's attacks so May decides to use Assist again and again, with mixed results... and she's running out of time! But Skitty's Assist finally comes up with Fire Spin, an attack that Jynx is weak against, giving May the advantage she needs to win! Afterward, Erica and Joshua promise to keep training separately so they can become great rivals as well as great partners. May and her friends say goodbye, then it's off to the Grand Festival and the Hoenn League!
