Ash and co. are now headed to Dewford Island. May is looking at her guide book and suggests they try some of Rustboro City's pasta first before they leave. Max notices the wrecked neighborhood they are in and wonders where they can find some pasta. May leads them to a place that has pasta, however it is closed and all boarded up. Max tells May to look at the date of her papers. May sees that the restaurant has been closed for ten years.

Ash is pretty upset since they can't find a boat that will take them to Dewford Island. They think that they have already missed the boat to Dewford Island, so they have to wait for the next one. Ash sighs since he wanted to start his gym match on Dewford Island right away. May decides to find them all a boat. She begins to look around the town but can't find any, nor can she find any people.

Suddenly, she sees a person fishing. She runs up to the man. Then she sees a Wingull fly down. The Wingull is the man's Pokémon. May looks up Wingull in her Pokédex. May thinks Wingull is cute. The man has named his Wingull Peecko. May holds out her hand to Peecko, but Peecko hides behind the man. The man tells May that Peecko can't trust anyone except for him. May holds out her hand to Peecko. Peecko looks at May and decides to come over. May has made a new friend. Then she feeds Peecko some of Brock's Pokémon food. The man then introduces himself as Mr. Briney to May. Meanwhile, Team Rocket is watching May and Mr. Briney. They plan on having May lead them to Pikachu. May asks Mr. Briney if he has a boat, and infact he does. He offers to take May and her friends to Dewford Island. May is happy by this, and she runs out to get her friends.

Team Rocket has been listening to May and Mr. Briney talk this whole time. Jessie suggests they capture the Wingull because she is fascinated by its gorgeous wings and clueless eyes. James and Meowth agree to Jessie's plan. A tall guy creeps up behind Mr. Briney...

May tells her friends that she found them a boat that will take them to Dewford Island. Ash, Brock, and Max are surprised that May could actually find them a boat. When they walk up to Mr. Briney's house, Mr. Briney comes out and yells at the kids. He screams at May that he made no deal with her about taking them to Dewford Island. Then he slams the door shut. Ash and co. are confused on why Mr. Briney would do that. Apparently, Mr. Briney has met up with a member from Team Aqua. The man from Team Aqua wants Mr. Briney's boat, and he has held Peecko captive until he gets it. Then the man sends out Crawdaunt. Just before Crawdaunt can hurt Peecko, Mr. Briney gives in and decides to give the man his boat.

Ash and co. sit on the port wondering what they should do. Brock tells them that if they walk to the new port right now, they still might be able to reach the afternooon boat. Suddenly, Officer Jenny comes up to them. She tells them that they are in a dangerous zone from now. She tells them that a member from Team Aqua has escaped into this area, and the man plans to meet up with his colleagues at a point. However, Officer Jenny has set up checkpoints around the city so that he won't be able to get away. Then she rides off.

Max thinks that the man from Team Aqua would already know about the checkpoints. They wonder where the man plans to meet up with the rest of Team Aqua. Brock states that the man would need some kind of vehicle to get around. Max and Brock figures out that the man plans to meet up with the rest of his gang in the ocean which means that he will need a boat. The only person around that has a boat is Mr. Briney. May understands now that Mr. Briney was trying to protect them when he pretended not to know her. They figure out that Mr. Briney could be in trouble already.

Mr. Briney leads the Team Aqua member to his boat which is behind the dock. The man still has Peecko captive, and Mr. Briney hopes nothing bad happens to Peecko. Ash pounds on the door to Mr. Briney's house. Ash and co. hopes they aren't too late. They walk towards behind the dock. Crawdaunt comes out with Peecko in a cage. Ash gets ready for battle. The Team Aqua member walks out too. Both Crawdaunt and Pikachu are about to battle, when an ambush occurs.

Team Rocket comes out, and they say their motto. Team Rocket notices the same man from before. They plan to steal every Pokémon possible. Meowth presses a button on a remote and a vaccuum hose comes out of their balloon. The vacuum begins to suck up all the Pokémon including Peecko. Brock sends out Lotad. Lotad uses Water Gun on Team Rocket. The remote is damaged from the water causing Pikachu and Peecko to be set free. Mr. Briney runs towards Peecko, however Crawdaunt gets to it first. Then Crawdaunt fires a Bubblebeam on the balloon. Team Rocket blasts off again.

The man and Crawdaunt get on Mr. Briney's boat and they drive away. Crawdaunt still has Peecko, and so Ash and co. have to get it back. Mr. Briney pulls a lever. A giant Wingull boat emerges from the water. Everyone boards the boat, and then they take off. Mr. Briney tells Ash and co. a story about how he met Peecko. They begin to catch up with the man. Mr. Briney demands to have Peecko back. He sees that the man is headed for Triangle Rock, the place where he is going to escape. Ash decides to get Peecko back. Since Crawdaunt is a water type, electricity would do well in this situation. Ash climbs on top of the boat. Crawdaunt uses Water Pulse. Big waves begin to shake the boat. Another Bubblebeam attack distracts Ash and co. even more. Pikachu uses Thunder on Triangle Rock. The attack blows part of the rock away, but there is still a lot of it left.

Mr. Briney gets an idea. He speeds up towards the man's boat. The man's boat is flipped up in the air because of Mr. Briney's boat and it lands on the other side of the rock. Peecko falls in the water. Mr. Briney jumps out and rescues Peecko. Suddenly, a large submarine emerges out of the water. The submarine belongs to Team Aqua. The man jumps into the submarine and escapes. Then the submarine goes back underwater.

Back at the dock, May feeds Peecko some more of Brock's Pokémon food. Ash, Brock, May, and Max's stomachs growl because they haven't eaten anything for awhile. May was hoping to try some of Rustboro City's pasta. Mr. Briney tells them that his best friend used to own the pasta restaurant. He decides to give his friend a call, so that they can all try some of the pasta. Then the next day, Ash and co. set out for Dewford Island.
