Niantic has announced that the Water Festival: Beach Week takes place in Pokémon GO from Tuesday, June 6th, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. to Monday, June 12th, 2023, at 8:00 p.m. local time.

Oceans of fun await in Water Festival: Beach Week! Our Water Festival event returns with a sandy(gast) debut! Enjoy a week featuring Pokémon you’d find by sunny shores, Pokémon debuts, a Global Challenge, a special Timed Research ticket, and more!

Pokémon debuts

Sandygast, the Sand Heap Pokémon, and Palossand, the Sand Castle Pokémon, will make their Pokémon GO debuts!


*Sandygast can evolve into Palossand with 50 Sandygast Candy

Global Challenge

A Global Challenge will take place throughout the event! Work with Trainers around the world to throw 300 million Nice Throws to unlock bonuses for all Trainers to enjoy for the remainder of the event!

Global Challenge goal: 300 million Nice Throws

Global Challenge bonus:

• Increased Candy for Nice, Great, and Excellent Throws
• Increased chance for Trainers level 31 and up to receive Candy XL for successfully catching Pokémon with Nice, Great, and Excellent Throws

Wild encounters

The following Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild. Also, for the first time in Pokémon GO, you’ll be able to encounter Shiny Clauncher—if you’re lucky!

Spotlight Hour

To celebrate Water Festival: Beach Week, an event-themed Spotlight Hour will run on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, from 6:00 p.m to 7:00 p.m., featuring the following Pokémon. The spotlight hour will also include a 3× XP bonus for catching Pokémon!

Timed Research

For US$5.00 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency), you’ll be able to access event-exclusive Timed Research. Complete the research tasks to earn a surfer pose for your avatar and encounters with event-themed Pokémon!

Please note that Timed Research expires. The Timed Research tasks and their rewards will disappear on Monday, June 12, 2023, at 8:00 p.m. local time.

Trainers will be able to purchase and gift tickets to any of their Pokémon GO friends that they have achieved a Friendship level of Great Friends or higher with. Please note that purchases—including those made for other Trainers—are non-refundable (subject to applicable law and the exceptions set forth in the Terms of Service). Tickets cannot be purchased with PokéCoins.
