In response to the release of Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2 over the weekend in North America, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) released a game and statement condemning the Pokémon franchise.

Below is the game that Peta posted. Note: Warning unlike the real Pokémon games, this Pokémon game by Peta is not suitable for all ages. Parental discretion is highly advised.

Peta's Position

"For generations, Pokémon have suffered at the hands of their cruel trainers. Help Peta free Pikachu and his Pokémon friends as they struggle for Pokémon liberation!

The amount of time that Pokémon spend stuffed in pokéballs is akin to how elephants are chained up in train carts, waiting to be let out to "perform" in circuses. But the difference between real life and this fictional world full of organized animal fighting is that Pokémon games paint rosy pictures of things that are actually horrible. If PETA existed in Unova, our motto would be: Pokémon are not ours to use or abuse. They exist for their own reasons. We believe that this is the message that should be sent to children."

What I don't understand is why did PETA have to wait until now (14 years after the original release) to respond to the Pokémon games. Since Generation 3, Gamefreak and Nintendo have gone out of their way to include some educational value into their games. The addition of Natures, Breeding, and EV training also teach children strategy and logistics, two skills required to be successful in the business world.

I say that this is an immature move from PETA and proves once again that these people don't understand the meaning of the Pokémon game genre.

Definitely just looking for publicity and what better way than to take a shot at Pokemon. I agree that if they truly had a problem with the franchise they should have brought it up a long time ago. Pokemon is one of the most kids friendly games out there on the market today.

This is laughable at best, "gotta save 'em all" The NA games dropped "gotta catch em' all" after 1st gen. Plus you have the japanese version "Minna pokemon getto daze" that is still being used today, which doesnt even mean same thing >_>
But in the end Ninty gets free PR so alls good lol

If just one of them had watched the anime, they would know that Pokémon have their own will and are nearly as intelligent as a human sometimes ^^

You gotta love how the game itself is infinitely worse than the game they're supposed to parody. Congratz, Peta dude!

Oh and by the way, it's obvious they're nothing but attention leechers, wh*ring their way onto every single major series just to get some attention.

Finally, pretending Pokémon encourages animal abuses... where the entire games are focused on 'Pokémon are our friends and partners, they're our equals, we should treat them good, like we would a fellow human being'. But yeah.

PETA has gone too far...
