Letter to the Community - December 3, 2024
Hello Pokémon TCG Live Community,
We hope you’ve been enjoying the latest release of
Scarlet & Violet—Surging Sparks, and all our recent economy and system changes we discussed in
last month’s Letter. These changes include adjustments like moving to a singular extended Battle Pass, reducing the maximum match time, and tweaks made to the ranking system, in support of creating a more rewarding gameplay experience.
With today’s update, we’re excited to announce several more changes coming soon to Pokémon TCG Live. These changes include removing Coins as a currency, several updates to the in-game Shop, and the introduction of Arceus League Elo rankings to the competitive seasonal ladder. Read on below for more details on how and when we intend to implement these updates!
Coins are Knocked Out!
Starting today, Coins will be retired as an available currency in Pokémon TCG Live to streamline rewards and improve how players engage with the game. As discussed in our last letter, all existing Coins will be converted to Crystals at a 4:1 ratio, up to a maximum of 5,000 Coins. For example, if you had 6,000 Coins in your account, you’ll receive an additional 1,250 Crystals after this update.
Shop Updates
With the removal of Coins, we’ve updated the Shop in some new key ways:
- Avatar Customizations are now fully available at no cost! Personalize your Trainer however you like, and look forward to more options in the future.
- Deck Customizations—such as Deck Boxes, Card Sleeves, and Coins—will now be exchanged for Crystals. New customization options will continue to appear in future Battle Passes.
- Some items in the Shop will now have exchange limits, restricting the number of purchases one can make within a certain period. This allows us to fine-tune our offerings and promote a healthy balance of resources in the game.
Arceus League Elo Rankings
For our most competitive Trainers, battling isn’t just an activity—it’s a way of life. Starting with this update, players who reach Arceus League in a Seasonal Ladder will transition from earning Rank Points to competing in an Elo-based ranking system. With an Elo-based system, the game will calculate a player's relative skill level, adjusting accordingly after every match played.
- Elo rankings will start at 1500 and adjust based on wins and losses as you battle against other Arceus League players.
- Your Elo score will be visible to both you and your opponents, letting the Pokémon TCG Live community discover who’s at the top.
Surging Ahead
We hope that you continue to enjoy playing Pokémon TCG Live, and look forward to the changes coming ahead that we’ve detailed in this letter. We’re eager to hear your feedback as we continue to grow and evolve, so please continue to share your thoughts on the official Pokémon Forums.
In the meantime, prepare for Eevee and its evolutions in Scarlet & Violet—Prismatic Evolutions when the expansion officially launches in PTCGL on January 16th, 2025. We’ll see you then, Trainers!
Thank you,
The Pokémon TCG Live Development Team
