While traveling to the Battle Pike, Ash and co. have arrived at the Fuchsia City Pokémon Center. May cannot wait for her egg to hatch since it will be hatching very soon. Brock is prepared a bottle of milk for Bonsly. Bonsly drinks from the bottle. Nurse Joy walks up to the group. She looks at May's Pokémon egg and tells her that it is very healthy. Brock walks up to Nurse Joy and babbles on how they were meant for each other. Suddenly, Bonsly tackles Brock down. It doesn't like how Brock is with Nurse Joy.

Munchlax begins to drink from Bonsly's bottle. May tells Munchlax to stop. Bonsly cries but Brock cheers it up. Nurse Joy tells them that they have a cafeteria, and Max leads Munchlax to it. Ash wants to train some more before their Battle Pike challenge. Ash runs outside for the training, and Squirtle follows him. May wonders where Squirtle is going, so she runs after it. Meanwhile, Team Rocket is watching Ash, Pikachu, May, and Squirtle all run out of the Pokémon Center. They begin to think up of a plan to capture Pikachu and Squirtle.

Squirtle comes across an old looking train station. It decides to investigate it. May sees the train station too. The train station is totally empty. She goes inside it and calls out for Squirtle. May sees a photo of a few people. The train station was probably busy at one point of time. May walks out and sees an old woman sitting on a bench. On the woman's lap is Squirtle. May runs over to the woman. The woman tells May that Squirtle is very healthy. She gives Squirtle back to May, then she asks for May's name. May introduces herself to the woman. The woman's name is Edna. It starts to rain. Before Edna leaves, May asks her what she was doing at the station. Edna tells May that she was waiting for a train. There's a passanger on the train that she wanted to meet. Katrina, Edna's granddaughter, runs up to her. Edna introduces May to Katrina. They both say hello to each other. Katrina tells her grandma that they have to go now. Edna sadly takes the umbrella that Katrina was holding and walks away. On the bench is a photo of two people.

Pikachu is practicing its Volt Tackle. Jessie is watching Ash train Pikachu. Pikachu uses Volt Tackle on a rock. The rock crumbles and chunks of the rock fly everywhere including in Jessie's face. Ash congratulates Pikachu for doing a splendid job. James is watching Max and Brock who are in the cafeteria. James stares at the delicious food that is on the table. It is still raining and James sneezes.

May and Katrina sit somewhere together. May asks Katrina who the people are in the photo. Katrina says that they are Edna and Jonathon, her grandpa, however Katrina never met her grandpa before. May notices the beautiful pendant that Edna was wearing in the photo. Katrina tells May that her grandmother lost the pendant even though it was really important to her. Katrina tells a story about how Edna and Jonathon were living together long ago. Jonathon raised Pokémon and Edna was his assistant. Then one day Jonathon tells Edna that he wants to move and live in the city for a little while to study medicine. Edna is sad by this because she lived in the town for so long and doesn't want to move. Then one day Jonathon wrote a letter to Edna saying how much he loved her. Jonathon goes on the train and leaves. Edna tries to catch up with Jonathon, but she is too late. She bumps in a man and her pendant falls off. Katrina tells May that her grandma got a letter saying that Jonathon passed away in an accident, however her grandma doesn't believe it at all. Edna wanted to tell Jonathon just before he left that she was going to have a baby. However, she arrived at the station too late.

Katrina points to a fern tree. She tells May that Volbeat and Illumise would light up the tree and bring joy to the people. However since the tree has died away so did the Volbeat and Illumise. Meowth has been listening to Katrina's story. He is sadden by it.

At the Pokémon Center, May tells her friends what happened. Suddenly, May's egg lights up. Max is the first one to notice it. Nurse Joy tells May that it is about to hatch. She takes it from May. Max notices that Squirtle has gone missing again. May runs to the train station. She sees Meowth sitting on the bench and staring at the moon. May wonders what Meowth is doing at the station. Meowth tells her that he was thinking about Katrina's story. May is a bit disappointed at Meowth for eavesdropping. She finds Squirtle on the train tracks. On the ground is Edna's pendant. Suddenly, the pendant begins to glow and May, Squirtle, and Meowth are taken into the past.

A train is about to hit them, but May, Squirtle, and Meowth jumps out of the way. They are booted out of the train station by the employee. Outside is a whole sleuth of people. A gigantic fern tree stands. May, Squirtle, and Meowth are shocked to see themselves in the past. A man walks by them. He is Jonathon. They need to tell Jonathon that he is going to be a dad so that he can stay with Edna. They rush back in the train station, but the same employee boots them out again. It begins to rain. May gets an idea. They need to make it snow instead of rain so that the train can be late. Meanwhile, Edna has just read the letter that Jonathon left her and runs to the train station.

May, Squirtle, and Meowth are now in the balloon. When they get to a certain altitude, Squirtle uses Ice Beam at the sky. Because of the Ice Beam, it begins to snow and the train is delayed. Edna is able to catch up with Jonathon. She tells Jonathon that they are going to have a baby. Jonathon understands and stays with Edna. Meowth points to the fern tree. The Volbeat and Illumise light the tree up with joy. May looks at the pendant. They are traveled back into the future.

Ash, Brock, and Max find May. Max tells her that her Pokémon egg is about to hatch. They run back to the Pokémon Center. The egg is glowing. Jonathon, Edna, and Katrina walk in the room. Jonathon examines May's Pokémon egg. Edna asks for May's name. May introduces herself to Edna. She wonders why Edna hasn't remembered her before. Seconds later the egg hatches into an Eevee. Jonathon tells May that it is a healthy Pokémon. Meowth watches everything through the window. Jessie and James walks up to Meowth. They wonder why he isn't doing anything. Meowth tells his friends that he is wishing Ash and co. good luck.

At night, May thanks Jonathon and Edna for helping her. Squirtle points to the fern tree. The tree is glowing with lights because of the Volbeat and Illumise. Because of May's travel to the past, Edna's life has remained to be different than before. Ash and his friends continue their way to the Battle Pike.
