Infernando the self-proclaimed "fire-breathing clown and street performer extraordinaire" was first seen approaching the group as they made their way into Ecruteak City. Infernando claimed that Ecruteak City was full of hidden treasures with historical value, so he tried to sell Ash Ketchum a Dowsing Machine. However, the group did not fall for his scam and left him standing at the entrance to the city. Infernando then came upon James, who was out looking for food for the rest of Team Rocket. He was able to convince James to buy the Dowsing Machine, promising him that he would be able to find tons of valuable treasure. However, James was unable to find anything outside of some old bottle caps.
