It has been announced that the game soundtracks for some of the previous 3rd, 4th and 5th generation games will be posted for download on the Japanese iTunes Store on July 25th, 2012. Each download set will cost 2400yen but single tracks can be purchased for 150yen a piece. These game soundtracks are currently available on CD except for the Pokémon Black 2 White 2 soundtrack which will be released on the same day.

Unfortunately, there isn't much of a price savings downloading the tracks instead of purchasing the CD. For instance, the Black 2 White 2 CD set is selling for 2,625yen, only 225 yen more than the digital download off of iTunes and you get the booklet, case and CD's.

I highly suggest that anyone looking to get any of these sets to buy the actual CD. The iTunes downloads are too expensive verse the actual CD price to justify buying the digital downloads. Amazon.co.jp is actually selling the Heart Gold soundtrack for 2388yen with free shipping in Japan, so its actually cheaper than iTunes. You can always rip your own digital tracks to use on your digital music player. Buyer beware!

Not that I'd buy anything from iTunes anyway... and I'm started to get annoyed by company only releasing stuff on iTunes and/or the digital version only through that store...

Then again, as much as I love the games and their music, I can't really listen to them other than when I'm actually playing the game.

Hope they get a big step up for their music in the 3DS games, even if they get great music already.
