The official Japanese Pokémon website announced today that a new Pocket Monsters series is underdevelopment and will be released in late 2010. Below is the official announcement and the translation.

"Pocket Monsters" A Completely new series is in development for release later in 2010!

株式会社ポケモン（東京都港区、代表取締役社長：石原恒和）は、すべてのポケモンコンテンツの原作である、RPG『ポケットモンスター』シリーズ（開発：株式会社ゲームフリーク　販売：任天堂株式会社）の最新作をニンテンドーDS向けに、2010年内発売に向けて開発中であることをお知らせいたします。
Pokemon Co., Ltd. (Minato, Tokyo, President: Tsunekazu Ishihara) has announced an all new and original Pocket Monsters RPG series (Developer: Game Freak - Publisher: Nintendo) for the Nintendo DS which will be released later in 2010.

『ポケットモンスター』シリーズは、1996年の第1作『ポケットモンスター 赤・緑』以来、ポケモンならではの世界観や、違うバージョン間との通信による「交換」や「対戦」などの遊びによって、世界中のお客様から高い評価をいただいており、全世界でのシリーズ累計販売本数は、1億3,000万本以上にものぼります。
Since "Pocket Monsters" release in 1996 with "Pocket Monsters Red and Green", Pokémon garnered worldwide success and praise by having unique gameplay by allowing communication between different versions of the games to "trade" or "compete" against other players, as worldwide sales for the series has reached over 130,000,000 copies sold.

ニンテンドーDS向けの『ポケットモンスター』シリーズは、２画面、タッチスクリーン、Wi-Fi通信などのDSの機能を活かした遊びを組み込んできました。開発中の最新作では全世界で1,715万本以上（国内580万本以上）の販売本数を誇る『ポケットモンスター ダイヤモンド・パール』から ４年ぶりの完全新作として、これまで以上の新しい遊びと新しいポケモンを加え、すべてにおいて革新的に生まれ変わる予定です。
The "Pocket Monsters" series utilities the built-in features of the Nintendo DS' 2 screens, the touch screen and the Wi-Fi capabilities in game. The latest games that are under development are completely new and come after sales of 17,150,000 copies (over 5,800,000 in Japan) in the last four years for the previous games "Pocket Monsters Diamond and Pearl", and the new games will be innovative and a fresh start to the series by adding new gameplay elements and Pokémon.
