Pokémon debuts

The Single-Cyl Pokémon Varoom and its Evolution, the Multi-Cyl Pokémon Revavroom, will make their Pokémon GO debuts!

Starting with this event, Varoom will be available to hatch from 12 km Eggs. You can use 50 Varoom Candy to evolve Varoom into Revavroom.

Event bonuses

R: Team GO Rocket will appear more frequently at PokéStops and in balloons.
TM: You can use a Charged TM to help a Shadow Pokémon forget the Charged Attack Frustration.

Save Shadow Kyogre!

Giovanni makes his nefarious return, plunging into battle with Shadow Kyogre! The last part of the Seasonal Special Research story will be unlocked at the beginning of this event. Progress through it to receive a Super Rocket Radar and chase down Giovanni!

You can claim this Seasonal Special Research story up to the end of the Timeless Travels Season on March 1, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. local time.

Shadow Raid debut

Shadow Ho-Oh will return to Pokémon GO by making its debut in Shadow Raids. Also, for the first time in Pokémon GO, you’ll be able to encounter Shiny Shadow Ho-Oh—if you’re lucky!

Shadow Ho-Oh will appear in five-star Shadow Raids from Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 6:00 a.m. to Sunday, January 28, 2024, at 10:00 p.m local time.

Team GO Rocket Grunts—as well as their leaders Sierra, Cliff, and Arlo—are using different Shadow Pokémon. Help Spark, Blanche, and Candela overcome their adversaries and rescue the Shadow Pokémon!

In addition, Team GO Rocket has also turned the following Pokémon into Shadow Pokémon. Defeat Team GO Rocket Grunts to save them! Also, Pokémon rescued from Team GO Rocket Grunts may be Shiny Pokémon—if you’re lucky.

Paid Timed Research

For US$5.00 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency), you’ll be able to access event-exclusive Timed Research.

Timed Research rewards include the following.

  • Encounters with event-themed Pokémon
  • An event-themed avatar pose!

Please note that Timed Research expires. The tasks associated with this Timed Research must be completed and their rewards must be claimed before Thursday, February 01, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. local time.

Trainers will be able to purchase and gift tickets to any of their Pokémon GO friends that they have achieved a Friendship level of Great Friends or higher with. Please note that purchases—including those made for other Trainers—are non-refundable (subject to applicable law and the exceptions set forth in the Terms of Service).
