Description:
On June 6th, 2011, Nintendo launched the first major system update for Nintendo 3DS. As part of the update, the Nintendo eShop was launched which allowed users to download the free Pokédex 3D application and start collecting data for more than 150 Pokémon from the Pokémon™ Black Version and Pokémon White Version games. Only Pokémon from the 5th Generation were available on launch.
The Pokédex 3D application lets users view each Pokémon in 3D with animated motion and sound. Each Pokémon is a full 3D model that can be rotated 360 degrees while allowing users to zoom in and view the Pokémon model from any angle. As a detailed Pokédex, it also allows users to search, sort and filter all of the data for each of the Pokémon.
Players are only able to get 16 Pokémon at the start and they must receive the remaining ones through a variety of different ways. Players can complete their Pokédex by sharing data with friends by using the Nintendo 3DS's SpotPass™ feature or by scanning special Pokémon augmented-reality Markers. The augmented-reality Viewer allows players to then view the 3D Pokémon model in the real world by utilizing the Nintendo 3DS's camera to create photos to share with friends.
Software Update
A software update for the application was posted on Nintendo's servers on October 3rd, 2011 for all versions worldwide. Nintendo 3DS owners that had the application installed on their 3DS could download the new update by selecting the
Update option under the menu.
The update unlocked options that generally require users to unlock by getting a certain number of stickers in their sticker book via sharing or trading Pokémon. Some of the unlocked features were: the SD card backgrounds pictures can be used in the AR viewer, the pause Pokémon movements button and the size slider.

It will also made all other Pokémon data downloadable through SpotPass, including all form variations, which were previously available only by connecting with friends.
