The Poké Ball Plus (モンスターボール Plus) works like a Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controller with the Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! games and it allows players to move, battle and navigate menus. It has a pressable analog stick and button, so players can control the games entirely with the accessory. The Poké Ball Plus was officially revealed during the Nintendo E3 2018 Nintendo Direct on June 12th, 2018. It could be purchased separately for $49.99 USD / 4,980 yen or as part of a bundled version with the Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee games or Nintendo Switch bundle. It was released for sale on November 16th, 2018.

Catch Pokémon! Lights, sounds, action! Take your Pokémon wherever you go!

Poké Ball Plus has motion control capability, so when a wild Pokémon appears, ready a Poké Ball and try to catch the Pokémon by moving your Poké Ball Plus like you’re throwing it. It is recommended that you wear the included wrist strap and secure it tightly so that you don't actually throw the Poké Ball Plus and only do the throwing motion.


When you catch a Pokémon, your Poké Ball Plus will light up and vibrate in your hand and you’ll hear the Pokémon let out its unique cry based on the Pokémon inside it. You can then take your Pokémon for a stroll in your Poké Ball Plus out in the real world. When you’re out and about, you can gently shake your Poké Ball Plus and the Pokémon inside will make a sound and the Poké Ball Plus will vibrate.

Exclusive Mew:

Every Poké Ball Plus initially contains the Mythical Pokémon Mew, a special Pokémon that cannot be obtained by normal gameplay in any of the main Pokémon series games. To transfer Mew from your Poké Ball Plus into either the Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! or Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! games, you need an Internet connection and a Nintendo Account.


How to transfer Mew:
Moving Mew from a players Poké Ball Plus to their Pokémon collection is pretty straight forward and requires a few step.

Pokémon Ga-Olé - Ultra Legend Set 3:

The Monster Ball Plus was also released in Japan on November 16th, 2018 and to celebrate the launch of the games Pocket Monsters: Let's Go, Pikachu! / Pocket Monsters: Let's Go, Eevee!, players could scan their Monster Ball Plus with Pokémon Ga-Olé starting with the Ultra Legend Set 3 expansion to unlock the special Let's Go! Course (Let's Go!コース) where they had the opportunity to get 3 special Ga-Olé disks featuring Pikachu, Eeeve and Mew.

Using Poké Ball Plus with Pokémon Go:

The Poké Ball Plus can act like a Pokémon GO Plus when linking it to Pokémon GO and players will notice that it is equipped with the autospin function. Autospin lets players automatically obtain items while their Poké Ball Plus is being used as a Pokémon GO Plus. The Pokémon that’s traveling inside the Poké Ball Plus will spin Photo Discs that players will come across at PokéStops and Gyms and it will also get the items for the player!

In order to link the Poké Ball Plus to Pokémon GO, players need to make sure they have at minimum Pokémon GO version 0.127.1 for Android or version 1.95.1 for iOS. The app can be updated via the Internet if it is not up to date. Bluetooth must be enabled on the players smartphone for the Poké Ball Plus to connect. Players may need to refer to their smartphone’s user manual for the exact method of enabling Bluetooth on their specific device.

Pairing the Poké Ball Plus from a smartphone: 1. Players need to make sure Bluetooth is enabled on their phone. 2. Open the Pokémon GO app. On the main screen, tap the Poké Ball icon to open the Main Menu. 3. At the top right, go to Settings and then scroll down to the Poké Ball Plus option but don't press it yet. 4. On the Poké Ball Plus, press the Control Stick button on the Poké Ball Plus so that the LED flashes white which indicates that the device is in discoverable mode. 5. Tap the Poké Ball Plus option in Pokémon GO and the Poké Ball Plus should appear and be ready to pair with the players phone. 6. The phone will probably ask if the player wishes to enable the Poké Ball Plus with the Pokémon GO app. Confirm and the Poké Ball Plus is now linked to the phone. Disconnecting the Poké Ball Plus from a smartphone: 1. Open the Pokémon GO app. 2. On the main screen, tap the Poké Ball Plus icon. 3. You will see a triangle mark appear next to the Poké Ball Plus icon, indicating that it has been disconnected.

Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield Poké Ball Plus Compatibility

If you link up your Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield game with a Poké Ball Plus, you’ll be able to transfer your favorite Pokémon to the Poké Ball Plus, and take them for a stroll in the real world! Even when you’re not playing the game, you’ll get to spend time with your Pokémon. The Poké Ball Plus will light up and vibrate, and you’ll even hear your Pokémon’s cry from time to time!

Unlike in Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!, you will be unable to use the Poké Ball Plus as a controller in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield.

When a Trainer syncs their Poké Ball Plus with Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield, they will be able to transfer their favorite Pokémon to the Poké Ball Plus and take them for a stroll in the real world. The Poké Ball Plus will light up and vibrate and even the Pokémon’s cry can be heard occasionally. Newly purchased Poké Ball Plus’ will contain the Mythical Pokémon Mew. If players link a new Poké Ball Plus to Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield they will be able to receive this Mew in their linked game. Unlike in Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!, the Poké Ball Plus cannot be used as a controller in Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield.
